Halloween Crafts for 2022

I've had this paper mache skull sitting in my studio for about five years. I got as far as painting it gold, and then just didn't know how I wanted to proceed with it. Until this year. I pulled out jeweled cabs, sequins, and glitter and bedazzled it! I also cut a hole in the base to allow a tea light to be placed underneath. I love how in the dark it flickers and gleams.

Tis' the Season...

of the Witch! I love Halloween, my favorite celebration of the year. I always try to make a new (to me) decorations and this year I transformed this poor little girl and her pet deer. Am very happy with how it turned out and can't wait to give her some spooky friends.

Little late Halloween blogging

So I did two "costumes" this year. The first one-which I thankfully do not have a photo of because my friend AH said I looked like a drag queen, and not in a good way. So, I pulled out all the stops for my second costume (not) and just tarted up my hair a bit. Actually,  I really like putting these streaks in and may just make it an everyday occurrence.

Halloween Decorations- All lit up!

I posted previously about how I made these potion and elixir bottles, but here they are all lit up.

I used glow sticks and found a great deal on those tiny little lights, just $4.95 at Wheatons. They come on when it gets dark and only stay on for 3 hours - so a big battery saver. Plus, I appreciate not having to dig the battery pack out of the mason jar to turn it on and off.

Happy October!

Just a couple of snaps of my foyer decorated for Halloween--this look is very scaled down from what I've done in the past. I'll get the rest of the decorations up in a week or two!

Halloween Decorations circa 2016

I LOVE Halloween, I love making decorations and decorating and funky lights and crisp nights and strange noises in the night. I started seeing some cool Halloween bottles pop-up on my Pinterest feed and knew I had to make some, so here are my efforts thus far:

The plain glass bottles before

And after they've been transformed into Magical Potion and Elixir Bottles!!!!!!

Some detail shots showing what I did:

In case you haven't figured it out, I made my "potions" very personal, they are named for my novels, and contain things like limerance, and essence of canine and strength of mule.

Still Halloween at our house

I found a great iPhone app called "iMut8r" which I used to transform everyone from Bella to my co-workers into monsters, ghouls, and vampires. It was fast easy and a lot of fun. And I  think I look kind of cute as one of Hell's spawn creatures.

Frugal Friday - Halloween Edition

This edition of Frugal Friday, Halloween edition, will also be a flashback. In the photo below is of my sisters, Ann and Ellen (the twins) my cousin Sylvia, and my sister Susan (the little one up front.) And yes, my Mom dressed Ann and Ellen in coordinating outfits- many of which she sewed herself.

Anyway, I'd like to direct your attention to the chairs on either side of the girls. In the early years of their marriage my parents amassed a very nice collection of Haywood Wakefield furniture, including these chairs (and four more like them) and a gorgeous Hay-Wake dining table and server. Those were the pieces that I kept after my mom died. And I guess the point of this post is pay for quality  and it will last forever.

Here is one of those chairs today, with contemporary upholstery and some refinishing I think it looks wonderful.

And finally, I'm including this photo because it was the nearest thing I could find to a vintage family Halloween photo, Ann, Ellen, Susan, and my Dad.
