My Dallas died on Friday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m.
I last posted on March 18. Things got hectic with getting all the paperwork filed so Gerry and I can retire on May 31 and June 2, respectively.
Then, the unthinkable happened.
My Dallas died on Friday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m.
Gerry had been out to the barn that afternoon and all was fine. Both Doc and Dallas have been in good health and there were no indications anything was wrong.
When Paula went out to feed around 6:30 she said Dallas walked into Doc's stall grabbed a bite of his feed, she shooed him out, and then the next thing she saw was Dallas fell down and began to roll, and then he did it again and again. She called me, I called the vet and Gerry called Lori to come stay with his Mom (who was spending the weekend at our home) and we got to the barn in about 25 minutes after the phone call. The vet arrived when we did, and it was torsion colic. So bad, he wasn't a candidate for surgery. So I made the choice to have him euthanized.
My beautiful boy, gone.
After his heart stopped I sat with him, brushed him, and told him how much I loved him. We watched the sunset together and then Mr. Brown came and got him.
My handsome, perfect horse. Partners for 15 years.

Welcome 2022
The New Year. A lot like last year. There's been an uptick in Covid numbers and I'm back working from home at least for this week. On the upside, my sister Susan was just here for three weeks that could explain why I didn't do any blog posts. It was wonderful having her here and I think she really enjoyed the new apartment.
I actually got to ride more in December than I usually do but not as much as I would've liked. We are working with Dallas to become more relaxed out on the trails definitely a work in progress but this is a picture that was taken in December of us.

Dallas and MJ
I think this is my favorite photo from this year. I was shooting a message for a retirement video party for a friend and this is a screengrab from the video. Dallas started nuzzling me, which is NOT usually behavior for him. Anyway, I love it!

Leadline Show
I fulfilled a bucket list item when I was able to participate with my namesake in a leadline class at Blue Goose in September. AJ was a total champ- introduced herself to the judge, and gave an awesome salute and ride. I was so proud of her my heart was bursting. And yes, I had matching shirts with our barn name on them made for us. Dallas was a total rock star. Happy, happy moment!

Sleepy Boys
This is what greeted me the other day at the barn. Both the boys were taking a little nap. Doc waited a long time to get up, but Dallas knew that Mama likely had treats and got up immediately. I think his photo is especially cool because it kind of looks like he is levitating.
